Autobiography is

where you have been
the last breath you took, the one
you are about to take

making sense out of this
do it yourself life without
a guide
or making nonsense
when the needs arise
but I always thought it was

what I did today
how my life went
instead of
        how it’s going.

Teaching seniors teaches me,
what you did a second
ago or yesterday or last
night will be forgotten
              the next day
but remembered in forty years,

down to who sat where
said what and what
they were wearing.

Autobiography is what we wear.
