| Goddess
by Paige Hansen Davis
Erin’s having a baby
And Dad’s twisted his hair half in knots
Sean sits stunned
Mum’s reeling, crying, dreaming…reliving
And I am uncomfortable
Erin is changing
From my sister to this magical beam of life
This magician goddess who has done an amazing thing
A spell has been cast
A seed has been planted deep within
Erin-the-Mother
Mum is reliving goddess memories, goddess stature
Dad is reliving initiation
Sean in gulping
And I dance around the room
– embarrassed.
She is more than we thought
She is powerful
She is God like…she can CREATE
LIFE
And we fumble
and we stumble
because we had forgotten what we all truly are
Images of God
I am shy – because I too am a goddess
A hiding goddess
A creative explosive masquerading as normal. Mundane.
Always: with or without.
So we shied away and hugged meekly & the emotions ran wild inside
& beneath where few could see the celebration.
Celebrating what a pill once a day tries to conceal
That you and I, sister,
are Goddesses.
