Brenda Trofanenko is an Assistant Professor
of Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction
at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Her research
interests include examining how racial and ethnic identities
are formed within the public sphere, specifically with respect
to questions of how history is utilized to define particular
identities. She has published articles in a number of academic
journals including Journal
of Curriculum Studies, Anthropology in Education Quarterly,
and The
Social Studies. She consults for the U.S. government, particularly
on the pedagogical value offered by museums, libraries, and
archives. Her most recent project focuses on issues of indigenous
self-determination and sovereignty over education and culture.
She currently commutes between the cornfields of Illinois and
the mountains of Alberta, where she remembers to ski.
